I had heard that Judges Guild was back. And that you would be at the Conundrum Convention in San Antonio, Texas. Boy, you were there with flying colors. I did buy as many of the products that were offered as I could. My mouth did drip with that which is called "I want that!" I had the chance to meet your Design Department Manager, Mr. Greg Geillman. He and I had a conversation about the come backe of the company and what you have in mind. He is a very neat person to talk to. I am awaiting with great energy the old and new products that you have. Wow! Talk about a surprise. I'm glad to see you back. I still run games in the C-SofIO, the greatest city setting ever published. I'm definitely going to subscribe. Are your new products going to be in the universal rules format, or will you key them out for specific game systems? Also, if possible, publish the new modules with the same look and materials as the original products. I love those maps printed on the yellowish brown parchment paper. Good luck!

Oh yes oh yes oh yes!!! Wayyyy back when, almost twenty years ago now (cringe), the First Fantasy Campaign, CSIO, CSWE, Dark Tower, soooo much stuff made me love Judges Guild products to bits. It is soo great to see you guys back - and tell me - any plans for new stuff? I began my dungeon delving (almost) with Blackmoor in the old original D&D days, and just loved the parchment maps and mediaeval feel of all your stuff. So much so that I'm still playing it... and listening to that damned music on the Orcian Way! This is what the Comeback Inn was all about! Welcome back, guys. I began playing AD&D in the early 80's and bought CSIO when Mayfair Games released it. I was impressed then... and I'm only recently beginning an online MUD CSIO game using the setting as a starting point! Great to see you're back. The City-State of the Invincible Overlord became the basis for our (4 GMs) world milieu almost as soon as it was published the first time. WOHOO!!! It's been 15 years since I gave up RPG's, and now that I am getting back into them, here comes JG!! Many of your products made thier way into my gaming sessions. I still own a few JG items as well, things like Of Skulls.., Operation Ogre, Ready Ref Book, and the GENCON Dungeon, wonderful stuff, that I plan to re-introduce in my new sessions. These old products are a integral part of the "life" of Dungeons and Dragons, from the 3 brown books that I started with to the later ADnD stuff. And as far as I am concerned, many of the JG products hold top honors for the best names for game supplements(well except for maybe RQ's "Duck Pond" heh heh). Things like, City State of the Invincible Overlord, Fantastic Wilderlands Beyonde..., etc. Keep it up!! Glad to have ya back!!

It's great to see the Judges Guild is back. I told a lot people in the past how great it was to game at Guild's Guild on a Saturday afternoons. I feel that the Judge Guild's products are the best. The players I game in with Ireland love the City State of the World Emperor and the Dark Tower. I wish Judge's Guild all the best in the future.

There's a certain admiration for the Judge's Guild that I hold dear. A module from JgGd was always one step above the rest. You could always the feeling of the deep investment that an author would make in every product.

At last! First Greyhawk gets revived by TSR/WotC, and now this...... I have CSIO and CSWE, plus a map of all the Wilderlands together. I also have Wilderlands of the Fantastic Reaches (just maps and a 4 page booklet - is that all there was?) Other stuff too - Dark Tower, original Tegel Manor, Mines of Custalcon etc - but would love to try and get more (especially the other Wilderlands things). The JG stuff may not have been as professionally printed as others, but was bursting with creative energy and verve. Hope that this will revive. BTW, the Mayfair version of CSIO was absolutely dreadful - JG must get the license back! Do not have a credit card (yet) but I will be anxiously awaiting developments....

I think it's just great that you are up and running again. I'm in my 40's now and its been 15 years since I've even looked at an RPG game. After a disappointing though nostalgic search for the games I enjoyed as a young man, I found out just how much has changed in the game industry. Looking to get into a D&D/AD&D game in the Chicago area (preferably city, but...). Haven't played since mid '80's, so beginner level would be great. Would rather start as PC, but would DM if ABSOLUTELY necessary. Was hoping to do this in the Guildhall, but Bob hasn't been able to open that up yet, apparently (at least I haven't received my password yet.....many of you may know how Bob is trying to start this wonderful concept back up from the ashes....so much to do and so much time and $$ needed....). Oh my God. This makes me incredibly happy. Did anyone keep the notes on the rest of the Wilderness Book series? I was always particularly disappointed that it was never completed in print -- it was certainly the most ambitious wilderness campaign ever attempted up to that time. And the Book of Amulets and Talisman was actually printed? Gamescience lied to me!

It is fantastic to see JG back. Ivy has been using JG material almost solely since it was originaly published. Long Live the Emperor! It is great to see you back in business. This really brings back good memories. My first aD&D game was set in the city state of the invincible overlord. I still use it as a replacement for a similiar city ("Xillsfar") on a more famous (but now more and more fluff-filled world. Suggestions I say keep those old city state maps (although some name changes might be needed). The hand drawn character is still refreshing. Also, Please reprint Dark Tower. That module was great.

E. L. Perry, you are a wonderful artist! I was lucky to find copies of Portals of Irontooth and Trial By Fire, graced with your artwork. You have a clearness, and straightforward simplicity that gets to the core of the mood. Your cover for Portals of Irontooth is absolutely delicious. And the Trial By Fire cover! It is one of the greatest spine-chillers I have seen. I almost get lost in it, fearing for my sanity. Lovecraft would have loved that that one.

I have run a JG campaign for over 22 years. My players and I (some of us have been together for that whole time) have explored all 16 maps (actually only really 12, as I was unable to get Magic Realm till 3 years ago. JG has provided a quarter (optimistic) of a lifetime of fun for me and mine, and I am very pleased to hear from you again. The best thing about JG was that it always let me use my own creativity, rather than being a can of TSR soup that an amatuer could GM. I hope to see more expansion off of the old stuff, maybe even reprint the maps. Do not get all TSR flashy, there are plenty of us out there who still love the Tolkien-like simplicity of your stuff (I assume Bob Bledsaw(?) is involved. Drop me line if you need material (free to you, though I will have to get a scanner to input all the old typewriter stuff. Always remember-"We'll feast toinight boys, but the fat overlord will never know were upon him until its to late!"

Wow. Guys, you made my Sunday. I found the URL in a newsgroup posting. As a hard core player (rather than DM,) I never owned much of the JG stuff. My DM, however, has a complete (at least he says) set of D&D material, and it is all some of the best material ever put on the market. Your philosophy of leaving the background info to the individual is just what's needed in this day and age of prewritten preproduced "follow the dotted line" style of adventures. To the creators of judges guild,there are many fan of your earlier works here in Perth.We have been using your earlier work for AD&D 2nd eddition and found that the format made it easy for the DM to create a smooth game play. The intro instructions were always good. My and my friends favourite was the "Trial By Fire". Even though I have played it a long time ago, when I saw a 2nd hand copy of it it in the shop I had to buy it. (In retrospect we probably almost started WW3 as they tried to figure it out) AND IF I RUN THE TAPE back even further, sitting in Bob's dining room as he'd be "toasting" treasure maps and Craig practicing rolling all 20's (too likely to happen ANYWAY with him) and later hearing about a session I'd missed with Bob's rather blase recapitulation, "then they kidnapped Summerlott's wife and..." you realized you were not in Kansas any more.

Well, this brings back memories -- it's great to see JG still in existence! My buds and I started playing D&D back when it was still three booklets in a little white box (when it was still fun and didn't require a Masters degree in RPG to play), and we used to do most of our best and most entertaining campaigning in the JG settings. We especially enjoyed Fortress of Badabaskor, the City State of the Invincible Overlord, and especially Tegel Manor -- used to pull a lot of all-nighters in some of these campaigns. Would like very much to get my hands on some of the adventures I never had played, especially Caverns of Thracia and Dark Tower. It's great to see you guys back.

I just found this site and am very pleased to see Judges Guild back in the RPG business. I have many of your products however they are stored in the States while I am working in Europe. Many of the products I have purchased over the years as I found them a conventions or old game shops or garage sales. I would like to see you possibly reproduce the old magazines in PDF format that we could purchase. While many of the articles are dated many are still very usable without any changes and a lot of the rest require just a bit of updating. For example a character class that was in one of the mags was the "Weapons Master". I have continued to use it as a very formidable character class. In one of your FAQ you stated that you could not use volunteers to do work because of legal restrictions. However, I believe that you could farm out the work of retyping the documents on a piece work system that would be up to the individual to state how much it is worth for his or her work. In addition the individual could accept voucher for product versus monetary returns.

I'm glad to see that you are back. I have been playing your stuff on and off since 1980 (after being introduced to it by a friend). I was very unhappy when you went out of business around 1984. I started collecting all your stuff since that time, and pretty much have 1 (or more!) of everything you ever put out (yes - even including the original issues 1 thru 6 of the Dungeoneer - and I do not mean the Compendium!). I mapped out my whole world campaign using Judges Guild primarily and have had great times. Your modules were not always the best in terms of artwork, but your adventures (with a few exceptions) always had a relatively intelligent support background for the characters and plot where the adventures took place. Also, your monsters an d artifacts did not tend to be overpowering. Sadly, much of the TSR stuff published after the 80's fell into superpowered characterizations, overly powerful magic items, etc. Not to mention that they had poor plot development and background for many of the adventures. I always enjoyed a lot of the "homegrown" nature of your campaigns. I hope that you come out with many more of the same "flavor". One question I have about your Pegasus magazine which you hope to begin publishing soon. You are starting up with issue #14. Well, as I've said, I collected 1 of everything, and the last Pegasus that came out that I know of was #12. Are you skipping an issue, or just trying to not publish unlucky #13 ?

Well, HELLO! As a lad growing up in rural Warrensburg, IL, I was one of the youths occupying your gaming room on old Sunnyside Road in Decatur (circa 1980-1983). I certainly agree with the general opinion of the messages I�ve seen in this guestbook. We�re quite a few gamers here (not all of us writing very good english) really happy about your renewal which truly brings us back some 20 years ago. To my opinion, the C.S.I.O line of products was the best ever made considering details and possibilities. Some famous modules like Dark Tower, Thracia, Tegel Manor, Badabaskor and less well known (Tower of Circumstances, Book of Treasure Maps One) are still playable with some rewriting and contain a flavor I�ve rarely seen elsewhere. I recently again experimented them on new young gamers who were thrilled. It would be really nice if you could convince someone like Paul Jaquays to write another module for you, like in the old days. I agree with Lyndon Baugh: you'd be wise to reprint the original City States "as is" (not that dreadful Mayfair version) or at least scan them in for CD-ROMs. Have you seen how much people are willing to pay for the originals? Welcome back Judges Guild. I cant believe you are really back. I first encountered you guys at Gen Con X. From the first moment I saw your fine products I was hooked. I love the fact that you dont do what TSR and soo many others do. That is fill in ALL the blanks. I love JG stuff because you guys gave us plenty of handles to use to twist and turn a story on. A casually mentioined half buried sea chest in the Lurid Lairs sections of the Wilderness game packs and off my imagination would go taking my players right along with it. I hope you do manage to recreate some of the classics. Like The Caverns of Thracia and The Dark Tower. I mostly wish for you to reproduce the blank map sheets. City-State of the Invincible Overlord was one of the first campaign settings I ever read, and to this day it is permanently imprinted onto my gaming psyche: I've run in in no less than 5 different systems (D&D, AD&D, TFT, Arduin, T&T;). I've noticed that TSR's plans for the year doesn't really include a whole lot of new modules. In addition to re-releasing the older classics, this might be a good time to put out some new stuff, if you can do it quickly enough.

Judges Guild gave me some of the greatest campaigns I've played in and dm'd. I actually still own all of those treasured items (hey, back in those days, a $4 module was what I could afford, though I dreamt of owning them all). I ran many a player through the City States, all over the place, and even ended up adding a few maps of my own (though not as nice as the brown regional maps). I'm dying to look the site over (I've already bnookmarked it!). If you don't happen to add to the already existing world maps, I'd love to see you guys make some blank regional maps (in the old brown stock format) available to those of us who love to draw (the old fashioned way, by hand). Truly a blast from the past. My oldest D&D characters are just about legal drinking age now, and I remember JG fondly. I only had one or two JG products, running as I was on a slim-to-none gaming budget, but that tattered handbook of charts and references was an excellent source of ideas. I've found that I'll cheerfully come up with the broad, sweeping aspects of a campaign background, but detailing a city or a dungeon is a chore. Unfortunately, as someone noted above, the trend in recent years has been for companies to provide the Great Big World and leave the details to the individual GM. JG always took the opposite approach, and I'm looking forward to letting you folks do The Hard Stuff for me. Too bad I don't run fantasy games anymore...

Thank goodness you are back.. With the GARBAGE being heaped out into the FRP world by the faceless minions of TSR , its good to have the heroic (but gritty) judges guild world view back in place.. QUALITY has always been your hallmark. I remember when i was first exposed to the wilderlands of high fantasy (with the CSOTIOL) what a ride! I compare it as a FRP monster rollercoaster to the TSR "rotten realms" kiddy bumpercars.. there is just no comparison.

WOOHOO! I am so pumped to see you guys back. I second the motion to borrow Paul J. from ID software part time - his writing was excellent. I hope you will bring back as much of the classic line as you can. My veteren players (Like Mark Emmert below) still tell stories of their adventures in the dread "Tegel Manor". In all the years I've been gaming ( ok decades - as in since I was 10 or 11 years old) that I've run Judges Guild adventures I've never had any group successfully explore more than 40% of Tegel Manor. Some of my fondest memories and most humorous gaming quotes came from that module. Classics like "We've been lost in this mansion for 2 days and I'm starving! I swear I'm going to kill, skin, and eat the next Kobold we run across." or "Monsters!?! Monsters my arse. Forget the monsters, it's the furniture that will kill you." Thanks J.G. for all the years of magic and wonder you let myself and many others experience together. I'll be looking forward to more great things from you in the future.

The rich, evocative stories of many JG modules (like sword of hope) move me even now. And the fabulous reference materials (such as Treasury of Archaic Names and Ready Ref Sheets and Villages and Islands) remain unsurpassed. Especially all the random world texture charts from many modules and aids. Great maps! And the magazines were unfailingly inspiring, full of humor, and immense ingenuity (property charts for potions and rings, etc.), and the MacPack is an eternal classic. I�ve enjoyed and benefited from this material for almost twenty years! I remember one late edition of Pegasus which mentioned many future products which never saw the light of day. We can only hope that some of this material survives and will soon appear. It�s great to have you back, and we�re all looking forward to the next wave.

Then Mayfair put out that bastardization copy of the City State of the Invincible Overlord. Bought it, puked all over it! I have so many of the original modules. I am thrilled to see you back. Judges Guild was always better than the other companies producing Role Playing products. Your products weren't fancy in terms of grammer spelling and paper but they were the richest ever in content. Where other companies would detail a city and give or 2 taverns you would detail 10 with all the customers employees, scams and rumors to be found only there. Besides the main adventure each of your products had dozens of ideas for other adventures for the DM to use. Your products didn't have pages of discriptive crap that might be entertaining for the DM to read but was useless for running a game. You always had tons of useful details of the things DM's need: NPC's. business establishments, plots, monsters, magic items etc. I hope you can maintain the same standards you had in the past.

Hello their Judges Guild. Just a note to say that I�ve received my new modules and maps and they are absolutely mint. Still in their original shrink wrapping. In fact they are in better condition than I could have bought 15 years ago from the old Games Workshop chain. Usually the corners are a bit chewed up from other gamers examining them in the shop. But not these. They are real collectors pieces. A note to all of you out there, if you haven�t ordered yours yet, do it quick. I'd like to see more about what Judges Guild is about (specifics). What systems do you support or exclude. I saw a referance to WOD, but saw another saying to avoid AD&D. This is something you might want to consider putting in your faq area. What you guys are doing sounds interesting, but vague.

Our RPGing revolved around Arduin and Judges Guild back in the early 80's - and we haven't gone back since, although there has been scant activity in the last few years while we attend to real life... :( I would love to see a revision of the CSIO or CSWE - with perhaps a bit more detail on the Temples and Guilds. Wraith Overlord was great too - my players never did find out who 'he' was...err, is..., err...whatever. Anyway - welcome back and I look forward to future (and retro) products!

A couple of years ago I started a new AD&D campaign. I needed a city adventure quick, so I dug out my old (very used) City State. After an "update" to bring it in line with my world and a bit of political upheaval, this adventure area became the base of operations and the center of the whole campaign! Keep up the good work! Hail and well met! It is with glad heart that I read of the return of the original Judges Guild. I personally own many JG products (I still have all 3 "All the world's monsters") and have used them time and time again. I have many fond memories of wandering the streets of the City-State of the Invincible Overlord along with several of the JG games modules. In fact, I believe I still have a few issues of the Pegasus laying around... ;) To me the JG represented some of the best of what the gaming industry could be, and I hope that you can bring that back to what the gaming industry has become. Unfortunately, I "lost the faith" some time back and it has been a long time since I played a live D&D game, now I mostly end up playing computer games and wishing for something better... Good luck, and I hope you can bring back some of the old spirit we had back in those days!

I stumbled upon your website while tracking down old JG products for sale on the internet. I have been a gamer for 20 years and I think it's great that you are back! The gaming industry has been without JG for too long. In your webcite you mentioned that you were not sure whether or not you are going to reprint the old stuff. I understand that such products would have to be upgraded to be compatible with current rules (and thus, a good deal of work may be called for). Nevertheless, I still think that it would be a good idea. How about just doing a few - you could have a poll in which we could vote on our favorite classic JG adventures and then upgrade and re-release the top three or four. If they sell well then maybe you could do some more. Personally, my top favorite adventures are Tegal Manor (big surprize, huh?), Inferno, and House on Hangman's Hill. In terms of towns, I think Modron is one of the best FRPG towns ever published (not too big, not too small, and crammed with all sorts of neat stuff). Welcome back! -Eric Filmer

It's great to see you guys coming back. Along with TSR's acquisition by Wizards of the Coast, I'm excited that the greatest RPG is back in the hands of real gamers. A few years ago I almost completely lost interest in the game, because the people in charge at TSR became more interested in producing quantities of products instead of quality products. After the Dragonlance series, everything seemed to go down hill. Instead of writing adventure modules, TSR began producing adventure ideas. Player's, DM's, and collectors were left with sourcebooks that had no real meat to them. In other words, the booklets either gave a background, leaving the work of filling in the details to the DM (a tedious task-I could have made my own dungeons and saved my money) or adventures themselves were too short, capable of being completed in just a couple hours' time. As far as I'm concerned, the earlier days saw the best adventure modules. The Slavers (A-series tournament modules) series will forever remain among my favorite adventures.

Glad to see you guys aree back! I purchased many of your mods way back in 1981-4 and built more than a few successful adventures based on those mods. Just a few weeks ago, I dusted off my various AD&D books, mags, etc. and lovingly read some of the JG materials I have. I'm delighted to see Judges Guild back. Just a few weeks ago I unearthed the Islands Book 1 and was about to nostalgically start rolling up islands. Wanted to check one obvious thing: Before you sell your Last Copy out of the vaults are you scanning it first? I think that there would be a viable market for either small run reprints or a collection on CD. I'd be willing to volunteer some time this summer, for instance scanning, proofing and sending you proofed text and jpgs of any stuff of yours that you don't already have. Others might also be willing to be good for nothing.

Having just got off the phone with Bob Bledsaw it appears that JG is seriously on the up. City State of the I.O. has to be one of my favourites. Thief & Assasin characters love it. Inferno is great for DM's sufering cocky party syndrome, and Bob tells me that part 2 will be in the pipeline soon. Dark tower and Tegel Manor also come in close for my vote of best modules that are non-TSR products. Having never got hold of all of the fantasy campaign series maps and booklets, I would ask, are there any copies in pristine condition left with their original parchment coloured maps intact. Also will The Sunstone Caverns become an individual module in it's own right. It seems that Bragash the Minotaur would make a great keeper to some powerful artifact th at the P.C's had to locate.
