Judges Guild Web Site Privacy Statement
Last modified May 30, 2004
The Judges Guild Web site is a marketing site and fan community for Judges Guild game products past, present, and future. We respect the privacy rights of our online visitors as if they were our own.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are under the age of 13, you are PROHIBITED from participating in anything on the Judges Guild website which requires any type of personal information whatsoever, including the use of our Forums and postcard system, and you are prohibited from sending email to Judges Guild or anyone associated with it or with this website. There are absolutely no exceptions to this rule.
Collection of Personally Identifiable Information
Judges Guild may collect information from you on a voluntary basis when you sign up for the Felicitous Forums, buy something from us, fill out demographic and interest surveys, participate in contests or promotions, send questions or comments via email to Judges Guild, or use other features of the website where such information is requested.
The requested information may include personal information such as your name, email address, telephone number, and mailing address. In addition, we may request demographic information such as your age, sex, game products you own, etc. We will not require more information than is necessary for a particular purpose. For instance, we won't require your mailing address before you can use the forums, nor your age and sex when you order something from us.
If you are buying something from us, you will need to provide contact, payment, and shipping information. The reasons for this should be obvious. Likewise, if you participate in any promotion in which a prize is awarded, we will need to ask for your email address to notify you if you win, and possibly your mailing address to send you your prize if it is a physical item.
If you send us email, we will only use any personal information contained in your email to respond to your email and resolve any problems you may be having with Judges Guild's website, products, or services. Although we may keep your email for an indefinite time, we will not use any personal information contained in your email for any purpose other than contacting you. It may be forwarded to a person or a department within Judges Guild other than the one you originally addressed it to.
By allowing you to send postcards to friends, we are not attempting to collect any personal information about you or the person you are sending them to. We will use the personal information supplied (such as name and email address) only to send the postcard as you request and to allow the recipient to respond to you. This information is, however, logged in the event that it is necessary for us to investigate abuse of the system.
We may at some future time offer online surveys for visitors to volunteer demographic information about themselves and give us feedback about our products, our website, their likes and dislikes, etc. The information collected through these surveys is anonymous. We will not attempt to identify who is submitting the information or connect it to anything else we know about you.
In general terms, we will only collect information to the extent deemed reasonably necessary to fulfill your requests and our legitimate business objectives. If you do not want to submit personal information when requested, you will not be able to fully utilize certain features on our site, such as the forums. However, you do not need to provide personal information to Judges Guild in order to use the majority of our website, and we minimize the need for that information to the greatest extent possible.
We may use the information you submit to our website for our internal marketing and demographic studies, so we can constantly improve the products and services we provide you and can better meet your needs. If you request (opt-in), and only if you so request, we may use information you provide to send you email about our products and services.
Sharing of Personally Identifiable Information
Judges Guild does not sell, rent, or otherwise disclose personal information collected from and about any of its users to third parties. However, in the event of a merger, acquisition, reorganization, bankruptcy, or other similar event, Judges Guild's customer information may be transferred to Judges Guild's successor or assign, if permitted by and done in accordance with applicable law.
We may disclose personal information in response to legal process such as a court order or subpoena, or in the good faith belief that we are required to do so by law, including but not limited to disclosure to law enforcement or other government officials in connection with an investigation of fraud, copyright infringement, network abuse, or other activity that is illegal or may expose you, other users, or us to legal liability. If abuse of the Judges Guild website or associated services occurs, information may be disclosed to our web host, other Internet service providers involved, law enforcement agencies, or other individuals or organizations as necessary to prevent, and prosecute the parties responsible for, that abuse. We reserve the right to forward abusive and inappropriate communications to the service providers of the originating communication and to relevant local, state, federal and international authorities.
The demographic information you may provide to us is collected by Judges Guild. If it is at some future time disclosed in aggregate to any third parties, such as advertisers, it will be in very general and completely anonymous terms. For instance, we might list the percentage of people responding to a survey who fall into certain age brackets, or the percentage who play online games. This aggregate demographic information will be such that it cannot be used to identify you as an individual, or any individual, in any way whatsoever.
Your IP address is the string of numbers that identifies your particular connection to the Internet. It is sent out by your computer with every request for data, such as viewing a web page, so that the global network knows where to send the data. As do virtually all websites, the Judges Guild website logs all data requests, including which data which was requested and what IP address requested it. In general, we use your IP address to help diagnose problems with our server, for security purposes, and to administer our website.
We do not normally link IP addresses to anything identifiable, although we reserve the right to do so for purposes of system administration. However, we can and will use IP addresses to identify a user to their Internet service provider or to law enforcement authorities in cases of abuse of the Judges Guild website and/or violations of the law. The Felicitous Forum, like practically all online forums, logs posters' IP addresses, but this information is visible only to the forum administrator. It is logged for use in preventing abuse of the forums and banning, or (if necessary) taking legal action against, the people doing the abusing.
This site has security measures in place to protect the disclosure, misuse and alteration of the information under our control. Any and all details of our users and Guildmembers are kept in secure areas of our server, accessible only to Judges Guild staff on a need-to-know basis. Security of our site is controlled in part by our hosting service - Winterhome Webhosting. The server itself is housed in a secure commercial datacenter. As described above, all activity on judgesguild.net is logged for technical and security purposes.
Our promotional email list is strictly opt-in. We obtain email addresses for our mailing list in one way, and one way only: When people choose to sign up for the list. We do not harvest addresses from our forums, from our guestbooks, from the postcard system, from email sent to us, or from any other source. We do not buy email lists from third parties. If you change your mind, your name will be removed from the list immediately at your request. Spam in all its forms is the scourge of the Internet, not to mention strictly prohibited by our web host, and we will not be a part of it.
If you sign up for our mailing list, you are signing up only for the Judges Guild mailing list. We do not under any circumstances whatsoever sell, rent, give, or otherwise redistribute our mailing list to any other company or individual. Not only do we hate spam with a burning passion, but it is also strictly against the terms of service of the company that hosts our website.
The Felicitous Forums, the Guestbook, the Sharebooks, and any similar features in the future, are live content. Material which is posted there is entirely the responsibility of the poster. While we will remove material that we find inappropriate if we are aware of it, these features are not monitored on a 24/7 basis and our notions of what is inappropriate may not coincide with yours.
Also, please remember that any information that is disclosed in these areas becomes public information and may be viewed by those you may not want viewing it, such as spammers' address-harvesting bots. You should exercise extreme caution before deciding to disclose your personal information.
